POLITICAL DECLARATION OF THE “MOUVEMENT POPULAIRE POUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT” - MPD

Dear readers,

"Living by our wants does not make us happy. What means to be human is to strive, to live by ideas and ideals and not measure our life by what we have attained in terms of our desires but those small moments for integrity, compassion, rationality, even self sacrifice. Because in the end, the only way we can measure significance of our life …is by valuing the lives of others."

Therefore, we (the MPD initiators) have chosen to only support political initiatives based on forgiveness, our cultural diversities understanding and tolerance or political initiatives based on the Universal Declaration of Human rights (right to life and liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law ) and Democracy (freedom and equality between people “…government of the people, by the people, for the people…”

Please read the following MPD political declaration:

We, the initiators of the “Mouvement Populaire pour le Developpement”, MPD, in abbreviation;
- Despite the difficulties that our party (MPD) continues to face for registration by the Kinshasa-DRC government because of its unwillingness to allow new non-violent political initiatives to exist and function;
- Convinced that more than ever the time has come for non-violent political initiatives, among others the MPD, to participate actively and positively to any effort to make the Democratic Republic of Congo a country where to live in peace, to visit, to invest and to prosper;
- With a vision to contribute on the improvement of the social, economic and political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo through good governance and a sincere partnership with the international community in all its activities;
- Because we do not agree that only armed groups but also non-violent political initiatives and especially the marginalized ones such as the MPD should participate in any dialogues seeking for change in the Democratic Republic of Congo;
- Given the recent failure of dialogue in Nairobi-Kenya;
- Considering the damning report by the Human Rights Watch on the abuse of fundamental Human Rights in the east of the DRC and especially the recent killings at Kiwanja, on the 4th and 5th December 2008;
- Given the continuing abuses of human rights in DRC characterized by:
1. The missing and even the physical elimination of political opponents,
2. Arbitrary arrests and torture,
3. Rapes and murders of innocent people,
4. The forced recruitment of children for armed conflicts,
5. Extortion and the looting of peasants,
6. Disregard for ordinary people of the DRC and the international community;
- Given the lack of democratic leadership in the Democratic Republic of Congo;

- Affirming our commitment to contribute to immediately stop the human slaughter and other abuses against our compatriots irrespective of their ethnic, political, linguistic, regional belonging, etc.

WE SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING TO ALL THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS IN THE RESEARCH OF A SOLUTION TO THE CONTINUOUS CRISIS IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO:

1. Any effort to find a solution to this crisis must be non-violent and must produce sustainable and democratic results,
2. An immediate and inclusive dialogue not only between armed forces but also and especially committed non-violent political initiatives among others, the MPD.
This kind of inclusiveness will demonstrate real commitment of those actors for the promotion of good governance actually based on the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Democracy and Globalization, or, in short, a government of the people, by the people and for the people where leaders are servants of all the DRC people and not the opposite.
We believe that it is only in this way that we can collectively fight our real enemies which are: poverty, unemployment, hunger, malnutrition, HIV / AIDS pandemic, malaria, lack of drinking water, poor educational system, the marginalization of women, non-implementation of the Rights of the Child rather than maintain continuous conflicts, unnecessary wars and other abuses based on selfish ambitions which only are destroying the lives of innocent people, their property, the environment, etc.

- May GOD bless the DRC and its people!
- May GOD bless all Peace makers across the World!
- May GOD bless and support the MPD action for the DRC nation!
Kinshasa, 13 December 2008.
On behalf of the MPD Initiators,
Pacifique Sukisa – Makasi,

Leader
